You always hear about the foods that make your skin nasty and greasy, but what about the foods that make you skin nice and clean? Well there are plenty of foods that help your skin look immaculate. I wish I knew about this earlier on.
Just as a kind of side not, I shouldn’t have to, but I’ll just remind you that if you really want your skin to look and feel good avoid junk/fast food at all cost. One way to protect skin from ultra-violet rays is to wear sunscreen if outside during the day. However, a new study by scientists at the University of Leicester in the UK learned that vitamin C may be an important component in helping to prevent skin problems.
According to the results, vitamin C helped wounds to heal more quickly and to protect against DNA damage to skin cells. It may also help slow the ageing process, making this important news to individuals in the cosmetics industry.
Dr Marcus Cooke from the university’s Cancer Studies department commented that “vitamin C could contribute to the maintenance of a healthy skin by promoting wound healing and by protecting cellular DNA against damage caused by oxidation.” Read the rest of this entry »

It is well-known that milk can be a healthy, low-fat source of calcium -if you choose the skim or 2 percent versions. However, drinking milk can also be heart-healthy and decrease an individual’s stroke risk by 15 to 20 percent.
At the universities of Reading, Cardiff and Bristol in the UK, researchers have studied if there are more perks to consuming this potentially fat-filled beverage than omitting it from the diet. They used data from a recent report by the World Cancer Research Fund to determine current death rates from heart disease and stroke and what links to cancer may be present. An antioxidant found in melons has been proven to reduce stress in a a new study published in BioMed Central’s Nutrition Journal.
The superoxide dismutase enzyme supplement (SOD) derived from the fruit decreased the signs and symptoms of perceived stress and fatigue in healthy volunteers.
“The 35 people in our study who received capsules containing superoxide dismutase showed improvement in several signs and symptoms of perceived stress and fatigue,” says Marie-Ann Milesi, a researcher involved in the study.
Milesi admits that researchers found a strong placebo effect in volunteers who did not receive the supplement, but notes that that this can be expected when studying subjective feelings such as stress. Read the rest of this entry »
