According to Dr. Mark Borchert, director, The Vision Center at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, certain toys, such as BB guns, pose a particular danger for young children. “While a BB gun pellet may not break the skin of a young child, it can puncture his eye very easily. If you’re not familiar with the nuts and bolts of circuit training, it’s best described as a series of pre-set exercise stations. The participants rotate around to each station every minute or so. Upbeat music may play in the background. Many of the popular women’s exercise facilities popping up around town are based on the circuit-training concept.

In a gym setting, circuit training usually involves hydraulic exercise machines. But the beauty of circuit training is that it easily translates to any environment. Cots are safest as parents are warned of dangers of sharing a bed with babies

babysleepThe  safest place for a baby to sleep is in a cot, according to research showing the deadly risks of bedsharing.

More than half of ‘cot deaths’ happen when a baby is sleeping with a parent in a bed or on a sofa, says the study.

Researchers say accidental suffocation may be to blame, especially where the parent has been drinking or taking drugs.

In the study, researchers at Bristol and Warwick universities investigated all unexpected infant deaths up to two years old in the south-west of England from January 2003 to December 2006. Read the rest of this entry »

How do I get my baby to sleep independently?

baby-sleepingMany of my friends are pretty impressed that I’ve managed to get my 6-month old baby to sleep independently (meaning, no mommy around most of the time – no helper either OK?).  She will be bathed, fed, burped and put down in her cot ALONE and AWAKE and will eventually drift off to sleep.
