<p>A desirable vegetarian diet would consist of healthy carbohydrates, fats, and protein packages, along with plenty of vegetables and fruits. Healthy carbohydrates mean whole grains and few refined starches and sugars. <span id="more-983"></span></p>
<p>Healthy fats include almost all of the vegetable oils that have not been partially hydrogenated (meaning they won&#8217;t contain trans fats); palm oil and coconut oil in modest amounts are also OK. Of course, the protein package most distinguishes vegetarian diets, and not including red meat will make the diet healthier as this is related to higher risks of heart disease, diabetes, and probably some cancers.</p>
<p>Alternative vegetarian sources of protein would include a combination of nuts, beans, and soy products; these are not only lower in saturated fat and don&#8217;t contain cholesterol, but they also are great sources of micronutrients, healthy fats, and fiber.</p>
<p>Some versions of a vegetarian diet also include eggs, fish, or dairy products. Considerable evidence links high dairy-product consumption to an elevated risk of fatal prostate cancer, so I think limiting these foods to not more than one to two servings a day makes sense. The advice about elevated need for calcium is simply wrong.</p>
<p>The World Health Organization&#8217;s recommended adequate intake for calcium is 500 mg per day, which is easily obtained with a diet containing less than one serving of dairy a day. Also, all the large prospective studies consistently show no relation between intake of milk and risk of fracture.</p>
<p>If you do decide to follow a strict vegan diet, meaning no animal products at all, vitamin B12 deficiency is likely to develop. This can result in seizures, neurologic degeneration, and death. Therefore, everyone on this type of diet should be taking a vitamin B12 supplement or using foods fortified with vitamin B12.</p>

<p>After long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves such as those used in cell phones, mice genetically altered to develop Alzheimer&#8217;s performed as well on memory and thinking skill tests as healthy mice, the researchers wrote in the Journal of Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease.<span id="more-891"></span></p>
<p>The results were a major surprise and open the possibility of developing a noninvasive, drug-free treatment for Alzheimer&#8217;s, said lead author Gary Arendash of the University of South Florida.</p>
<p>He said he had expected cell phone exposure to increase the effects of dementia.</p>
<p>&#8220;Quite to the contrary, those mice were protected if the cell phone exposure was stared in early adulthood. Or if the cellphone exposure was started after they were already memory- impaired, it reversed that impairment,&#8221; Arendash said in a telephone interview.</p>
<p>Arendash&#8217;s team exposed the mice to electromagnetic waves equivalent to those emitted by a cellphone pressed against a human head for two hours daily over seven to nine months.</p>
<p>At the end of that time, they found cellphone exposure erased a build-up of beta amyloid, a protein that serves as a hallmark of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.</p>
<p>The Alzheimer&#8217;s mice showed improvement and had reversal of their brain pathology, he said.</p>
<p>&#8220;It (the electromagnetic wave) prevents the aggregation of that bad protein of the brain,&#8221; Arendash said. &#8220;The findings are intriguing to us because they open up a whole new field in neuroscience, we believe, which is the long-term effects of electromagnetic fields on memory.&#8221;</p>
<p>Arendash said his team was modifying the experiment to see if they could produce faster results and begin testing humans.</p>
<p>Despite decades of research, there are few effective treatments and no cure for Alzheimer&#8217;s, the most common form of dementia. Many treatments that have shown promise in mice have had little effect on humans.</p>
<p>More than 35 million people globally will suffer from Alzheimer&#8217;s disease or other forms of dementia in 2010, according to the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association.</p>
<p>There has been recent controversy about whether electromagnetic waves from cellphones cause brain cancer.</p>
<p>Co-author Chuanhai Cao said the mice study is more evidence that long-term cellphone use is not harmful to the brain.</p>
<p>Groups such as the World Health Organization, the American Cancer Society, and the National Institutes of Health, have all concluded that scientific evidence to date does not support any adverse health effects associated with the use of cellphones.</p>

<p>There is, however, an inexpensive way of retaining youthful beauty, and that is through observing a regular facial fitness routine &#8211; that is, exercising the muscles of your face. The idea behind facial fitness is similar to the principle of doing a body workout: by exercising, you build up the muscles of your body and keep them toned and firm.<br />
In case of the face, by exercising the facial muscles regularly, the muscles will be lifted enough to remove the sags, and the skin &#8211; sunny glow will be smoothened enough to remove the wrinkles. The blood circulation to the face will also increase with facial exercises, enabling the tissues of the face to repair themselves more quickly.</p>
<p>Maintaining a regular facial fitness routine is easy. It only takes a few minutes of your time and it can be done while watching television or waiting for the stoplight to turn green when driving. Here are a few sample exercises for different areas of the face.</p>
<p><strong>Forehead</strong>. This will smooth down the wrinkles of the forehead. Place your fingers just above your brow. Then, with your fingers, pull the skin down. At the same time, try to raise your eyebrows. Repeat this ten times.</p>
<p><strong>Eyelids</strong>. To deal with crows&#8217; feet at the corners of the eyes, put the thumbs at the corners of the eyes and then shut your eyes tightly. Then, with your thumbs, pull at the skin towards the forehead. Repeat this ten times.</p>
<p>For sagging eyelids, hold your index fingers close to the brow bone. Afterwards, raise your eyebrows. At the same time, try to close your eyes. Again, repeat this ten times.</p>
<p><strong>Cheeks</strong>. Form an &#8216;O&#8217; with your lips and try to push them forward as fast as you can. Then release the &#8216;O&#8217; and smile as widely as you can. Repeat ten times.</p>
<p><strong>Lips</strong>. Push your lips outward in a pout as far as you can, then smile. Or you can suck on your finger as hard as you can. Once again, repeat ten times.</p>
<p><strong>Neck</strong>. Arch your neck backward and place your hand on your neck just under the chin. After that, let your hand slide downward and push at your collarbone. An alternative to this one would be to push your lower lip outward as far as you can and tilt your chin up toward the ceiling, resting the hand against the collarbone as you are doing so.</p>
<p><strong>Chin</strong>. Push your lower lip upward as high as you can. You can also press your thumb on the bone just under your chin and then push your tongue against your lower gums as if it is trying to meet your thumb. Another thing you can do is to tilt your chin up and massage the flesh under it with your thumb with strokes directed towards your neck. These exercises will take care of the double chin.</p>
<p>Just like in total body workouts, facial fitness exercises take time. However, if you truly want to see results on your face, try doing this once or twice a day, five times a week. You will be able to see changes in around a month or two.</p>

<li>Eat five servings  of fruits and vegetables every day. Soluble fibers mainly found in fruits, vegetables  and some seeds are good for diabetics. They reduce or slow down the absorption  of glucose from the intestines.<br />
Diabetes patients should include leafy vegetables,  vegetable soups and juices in their diet. Vegetables like tomato, cucumber, bitter  gourd, carrot, cooked kidney beans, pumpkin, snake gourd, beans,  cabbage,  lady finger, brinjal, onion, spinach, inner part of banana stem, drum sticks etc.  are good for diabetes.   Fruits and fruit juices of  apple, guava,  lemon etc. are good. Avoid fruits like banana, mango, grapes, papaya, jack fruit  etc. and vegetables like potato, tapioca, sweet potato etc. containing lot of  carbohydrates.</li>
<li>Eat more starches such as bread,  cereal, and starchy vegetables. Aim for six servings a day or more.</li>
<li>Eat  sugars, sweets and fat and fat-fried items in moderation.<br />
It is better  to avoid cakes, jaggery, honey, ghee, butter, cool drinks, biscuits, dried fruits  like badam and excess use of oil while cooking.</li>

<p><strong>Home Remedies</strong></p>
<p>Some home remedies  help to regulate the blood sugar level. You can try out some of these remedies  which compliment along with the diet for diabetics and regular exercises to lower  blood sugar levels and protect from diabetes related damages.</p>
<p><strong>Have</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>1 litre of cinnamon water daily.  Cinnamon contains a chemical to help utilize blood sugar naturally in your body.  Add 3 table spoon of cinnamon to 1 litre of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes  in a low flame, then strain the mixture.</li>
<li>Fresh  or dried bitter gourd (bitter melon) or 2 ounces of its juice every day. Bitter  melon increases the insulin secreting cells in the pancreas and daily intake of  juice reduces the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy.</li>
<li>Wild  (Black) cumin boiled in water regularly.</li>
<li>Equal  quantities of turmeric powder and dried gooseberry powder with honey or drink  equal quantities of gooseberry juice and fresh turmeric juice in an empty stomach  regularly.</li>
<li>Regularly, the juice of crushed &#8216;touch  me not&#8217; with its roots.</li>
<li>First thing in the morning,  have the juice of crushed fish-berry (amruth) soaked in water for a day.</li>
<li>Make  coffee with powdered fried fenugreek and wheat, taken in equal quantities.</li>
<li>Garlic  every day early in the morning in an empty stomach.</li>
<li>Tender  curry leaves (fresh) twice a day.</li>
<li>Crush guava leaves,  a handful and 3 grams of cumin together. Boil with one glass of water and make  it half.</li>
<li>Drink 8 glass of water in the morning  and walk for one hour.</li>
<li>The leaves of gymnema sylvestre  (Gurmur- a climbing vine), a traditional Ayurvedic medicine for diabetics,   significantly reduces the metabolic effects of sugar by preventing the intestines  from absorbing the sugar molecules during the process of digestion. Add 3 quarters  of gymnema powder to one glass of boiling water, strain and drink it warm twice  a day, 1 hour before breakfast and 1 hour before dinner for best results. The  leaves can also be ground and had. It has the property of blocking sugary taste  and thus curbs the craving for sweet things.</li>
